Also known as direct drive pumps, axial cam pumps are directly attached to the engine of the pressure washer. An axial cam pump’s pistons simultaneously move with the pressure washer engine, maintaining the same speed. Apart from generating powerful PSI, axial cam pumps are affordable and they’re the most popular type of replacement pumps on the market.
You can see my top axial pump recommendation for pressure washers: the Generac universal pump on Amazon that works with all washer brands.
This Generac replacement pump will work with up to 3,000 PSI on all gas pressure washers engine brands that have a 3/4" shaft. Also, this Generac axial pump comes pre-filled and sealed with oil to last the entire life of the pump! No need for you to mess around with oil maintenance.
And you can check Amazon's price on my recommended Generac universal replacement pump.
One of the most important things to remember when reading my axial cam pump reviews, is to make sure that your replacement pump has the same ratings as your old pump. The GPM (Gallons per Minute) and PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) ratings of both pumps must be the same! There’s no need to choose the same brand name as the old pump. But you’ll need to match up the ratings for the PSI and GPM.
Triplex pumps are the more powerful version of axial cam pumps. They are much more durable and are preferred by professionals. Triplex pumps are priced higher than axial pumps because they’re more durable build and use heavy duty components that give higher PSI and GPM ratings.

As with any equipment, proper maintenance will help get you the most working hours out of it.
Lubrication of your pressure washer pump is critical! Don't ever start up your pressure washer before checking the oil sight glass of your pump. Or checking your pump dip stick. Low or no oil is the most common reason for pump failure.
Remember to read your user’s manual to learn how to check & change your pump oil. As for me, I believe an oil change should be done every spring time, prior to the beginning of the cleaning season.
Now that I have shared my axial cam pump reviews, I hope that you will be able to find the best replacement pump.
