Do you need to repair your electric
pressure washer pump? Use my pro tips and reviews to help you in repairing your
broken pump. I’ll save you on time, money and stress.
If you’ve got a pressure washer with a blown pump and it has
a good running engine, find out if the pump is replaceable. If so, consider
pump replacement. It’s certainly less expensive than buying a brand new pressure washer.
And you can check out my #1 best recommended replacement pump: the Generac universal replacement pump that's available on Amazon. Because it's a universal pump, it will work with ANY pressure washer brand. You can check Amazon's lowest price on this Generac universal replacement pump.
Now, if you have a high-quality gas or electric washer featuring a triplex pump or axial cam, you’ll be able to replace the electric pressure washer pump. And, you may even be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to do.
My tip: I should let you know that if you own an inexpensive electric pressure washer that uses a wobble pump, the pump cannot be replaced. It is not possible to swap out a wobble pump for a new one. The unfortunate thing is when the wobble pump fails, you’ll have to invest in an electric pressure washer unit.
After finding out if you have a triplex pump or axial cam, you need to find out if the current pump is vertically or horizontally mounted. A vertical mount is one in which the pump is mounted beneath the engine. A horizontal mount is one where the mounted pump is next to the engine instead.
Next, examine the bolt pattern and the amount of bolts on the current electric pressure washer pump. You need to match up the pattern and number of bolts on the current pump to the new pump.
Then, you need to find out if the shaft is solid or hollow and the shaft’s diameter.
It’s important that you match the current electric pressure washer pump’s Gallons per Minute (GPM) and Pounds Per Square Inch (PSI) with the new pump you plan to buy. It is absolutely essential that the GPM and PSI match up. It will prevent damage to both the hoses and the engine if everything matches up correctly.
When it comes to pressure washer brands, there are plenty, including those manufactured by Briggs & Stratton, Comet, and CAT, among others. Just remember that even though your current electric pressure washer pump is a particular brand, it doesn’t mean you have to buy the same brand for your new pump. What is important is that the bolt pattern and specs match perfectly. When it comes to brand, you can have your pick of compatible pumps.
To ensure your pump lasts a long time, it’s important to maintain it. Proper maintenance protects your investment.
Many owner manuals for gas pressure washers suggest checking the pump oil regularly. To do this, you need to check the oil level of the pump before the engine is started. Every time you check the oil, it should be done before the engine is started. Checking the oil is simple, and it takes mere seconds to look at the sight window indicating oil level or looking at the dipstick.
Regular oil checks will keep your pump from burning out.
You should also change the oil after 50 running hours or every spring, whichever comes first.
Be sure to check your owner’s manual for more care instructions for your washer and electric pressure washer pump!
