Choosing the best home pressure washer for your budget can be a challenge because there are hundreds of models on the market. That's why I wrote this page to share my pro tips on choosing the right unit for you - to save you time, money & disappointment.
First, before you go out & buy one, think about what types of outdoor cleaning jobs you want to do. And how often! That's the most important thing to consider to help you choose between the two major types of home pressure washers: Gas or Electric.
It's a major decision to choose between a gas or electric unit, so let's get started:
Do you plan to use your power washer about once or twice a month? Or less? Would you like to use it for light cleaning jobs like cleaning your car, your grill, boat, or dirt bike? Do you want a lightweight unit that can be used for both indoor and outdoor cleaning projects? And are you on a really tight budget?
If you answered yes to these questions, then an electric model just might be the best choice for you!
Electric units are lighter and smaller than gas units and are much quieter to use. Because electric pressure washers don't produce any fumes, you can use them indoors too, as long as you have an electrical outlet handy. And you can find quite a few electric units like Karcher or AR North America for less than $200.
Do you plan to use your unit at least a few times a month? Or more? Are you thinking about getting some heavy duty projects done like cleaning decks, driveways, removing mildew, stripping paint, and cleaning gutters? Are you only interested in using it outdoors? And can your budget handle spending more than $200?
If you answered yes to these questions, then a gas unit just might be the best choice for you! Here's why:
Gas models are heavier, more powerful and built to last longer than electric models. The powerful gas engines produce more cleaning power and they can finish more demanding jobs - faster. They do produce fumes, and are louder, so gas units can only be used outdoors. You'll invest more money in a gas unit, but they'll last longer than an electric unit.
Whether you've decided on an electric or gas unit, take some time to compare models & prices. The prices for good quality units have really come down in the last few years and you can compare a lot on the internet, to get the best deal!
